Ken conducts research on learning and motivation in workplace training and development, with an emphasis on technology-mediated learning environments.  He also studies the science-practice gap as it relates to Human Resource Management policy and practice.  Ken’s published work has appeared in Academy of Management Executive, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Planning, International Journal of Training and Development, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and in a number of edited books. He is co-author (with Greg Stewart) of a textbook entitled Human Resource Management: Linking Strategy to Practice (2008, Wiley).  He has received research awards from both the American Society of Training and Development and the Society of Human Resource Management for his research on technology-mediated training programs.  In addition to his work with AMLE, Ken is currently serving on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Review, Human Resource Management, Journal of Management, and Organization Management Journal.

Ken’s teaching experiences include courses in human resources, organizational behavior, and general management as well as courses across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.  His current teaching efforts are directed toward the mandatory, large enrollment management course for undergraduates in the Tippie College.  Ken is the recipient of a number of teaching awards, including twice being selected for College’s annual “Student’s Choice for Faculty Excellence Award.”  Ken has also been twice nominated by the University of Iowa for the national U.S. Professors of the Year.
