The AOM Specialized Conferences Initiative is a multi-year experiment that aims to develop a portfolio of smaller, meaningful and sustainable new meeting opportunities that complement our large Annual Meeting. Several new conference models that will allow members to connect and engage throughout the year, virtually and in varied locations that are reflective of the geographic dispersion of our international membership, are envisioned as part of this initiative. In addition to these models, new ideas that reflect the creative energy of our membership are expected to emerge. The plan for realizing this vision for AOM conference activity is designed to continuously evolve as we experiment with new program structures, delivery modes, content features, and conference designs.

- Call for New Conference Proposals
Call for Proposals: Academy of Management Specialized Conferences
PRELIMINARY PROPOSAL DEADLINE: JUNE 1, 2017
In response to member appeals for additional professional development and scholarly exchange opportunities, the Academy of Management has committed to exploring new meeting possibilities by experimenting with alternate modes of delivery and identifying novel approaches for collaboration through smaller, regionally-based specialized conferences.
The Board of Governors, along with volunteers from across the Academy’s divisions, interest groups and other leadership communities, have developed a long-term plan to provide a diverse portfolio of conference offerings that will allow members to connect and engage throughout the year, virtually and face to face, in varied locations that are reflective of the geographic dispersion of our international membership. Several new conference models are envisioned as part of this plan. In addition to these models, we expect new conference ideas that reflect the creative energy of our membership to emerge. The plan for realizing this vision for AOM conference activity is designed to continuously evolve as we experiment with new program structures, delivery modes, content features, and conference designs.
To get started, we imagine three types of specialized conferences that could fulfill our mission to connect people and ideas while also advancing our vision to inspire and enable a better world through our scholarship and teaching on management and organizations. With this first call, we also aim to solicit proposals for conferences located outside of the U.S. that would serve at least 350 members. Proposed conference models include:

- Call for Webinar/Virtual Conference Proposals
NEXT REVIEW DEADLINE: June 1, 2017
The Academy of Management aims to develop high-quality video-based meetings that are interactive, relevant and accessible to the Academy’s research and teaching communities worldwide. In support of the AOM Specialized Conferences Initiative, we are seeking members of our professional community who are willing to co-create new webinars and virtual meeting opportunities. As part of this initial exploration, we are seeking ideas for broad themes with cross-disciplinary appeal and unique content that is suitable for online delivery and interactivity. Some potential examples include “academic job market tips” "teaching strategies for the virtual classroom" and “qualitative research approaches.”
Web-based meetings will be hosted by the Academy of Management and delivered through a formal webinar development platform. Training and support for the development of these interactive online events will be available for content leaders and meeting organizers.
Members are invited to express their vision for a Virtual, Web-Based, Academy of Management event in 2017. AOM welcomes ideas for innovative, interesting and engaging content ideas from across our Divisions, Interest Groups, Committees, and other leadership communities.
Brief, one-page expressions of interest can be submitted to the AOM Specialized Conferences Committee. Brief statements should reflect:
- Core concept, unique content, theme/topic of the proposed web-based event
- Intended goals and outcomes of the event
- Sponsoring AOM Division(s), Interest Group(s), Committee(s), Network(s)
- Champions (leadership, organizers, presenters)
